Baptism

Holy Baptism is the basis of the whole Christian life, the gateway to life in the Spirit (vitae spiritualis ianua), and the door which gives access to the other sacraments. Through Baptism we are freed from sin and reborn as sons of God; we become members of Christ, are incorporated into the Church and made sharers in her mission: “Baptism is the sacrament of regeneration through water in the word.” (CCC 1213)

St Catherine’s welcomes families who wish to have their children Baptised in the Catholic Church.  They are celebrated most Sunday’s at 11 am, and bookings are required. It is normal for you to meet with the Parish Priest, Fr Greg Morgan, before a date is confirmed.

Please keep in mind that we are limited to the number of Godparents listed on the Certificate as generally only two are recommended. Canon law requires that both have to be baptized Christians and at least one has to be Catholic.

Baptism Packs can be obtained from the Parish Office during Office hours, please call 9525.1138 to arrange a suitable time to collect and to return your completed information form. Please read the documents carefully. If you are unable to come to the parish office, please send us an email with your contact details and we will send you out the form. Our email address is [email protected]

It is customary for the child should to be dressed in white. We would also ask that you supply a Baptism Candle – any specially prepared Candles should have the word BAPTISM and not christening.
