The Confraternity of Christian Doctrine (CCD) is an Ecclesiastical Organisation of the Archdiocese of Sydney. It was established in 1958 on the authority of the Archbishop of Sydney as an autonomous, non-profit organisation for the primary and principal purpose of providing religious education and Christian formation for Catholic children in public schools.

CCD helps Parishes to seek and support Catechist volunteers, often referred to as Scripture teachers, to show our children, who have opted for a State Education, how to pray, form them in the Catholic faith and in living a Christ-like life.

In our parish, catechists provide weekly religious instruction to over 400 children in four local schools: Gymea North PS, Gymea Bay PS, Kirrawee PS and Grays Point PS.

Of course, we rely on the efforts of our many parishioners who volunteer to be catechists, but there are a variety of ways that parishioners can help, including by volunteering to be a catechist helper.

If this is a ministry that you feel called to learn more about, or you are interested in finding out how you can assist, please get in touch with our Catechist Coordinator – Karen at [email protected].
